Tutors: Adrien Coché, Nicolas Contant/ filmmakers
Project manager: Mathieu Marion
Objectives:
With the help of a filmmaker, the class had to make a 5-minute film on their relationship with television. The idea was to keep issues surrounding television open, getting the pupils to talk, listening to them and helping them to analyse their relationship with television.
Workshops:
Discussing the theme
At first the tutor encouraged the class to talk about their relationship to television, reality shows, the news, series, films, etc. Each pupil reported on his/her viewing habits (traditional channels, TNT, Internet).
Writing the scenario
Guided by the tutor, the class worked out the broad outline of the story (angle, plot, action, characters, etc.), then broke up into small groups to write the scenario for the film.
Images and filming
Pupils and tutor analysed the image making process (sound codes, scale of the shots, angles, composition, camera movements). Shooting then began: each pupil was given a particular task (sets, costumes, props, actor, film crew).
Editing and postproduction
At the outcome of the final stage, each class had its own film.
Exhibition:
On 21 May 2012 the classes presented their films at the Cultural Forum of Le Blanc Mesnil. The pupils talked about their work as a preview before each screening. After the film, a discussion with the journalist Marlene Loicq (French Media Education) gave the classes an opportunity to further their thinking about television.
